The Photo-Ethnography™ methodology has been specifically tailored to meet the special needs of teens and pre-teens who:

  • Are uncomfortable and often uncommunicative in new situations
  • Prefer visual expression and find it easier to express themselves with pictures, stories, and music – rather than verbally
  • Have relatively short-attention spans and need stimulation to keep them focused
  • Are most productive with projects that truly interest and engage them.

We help teens and pre-teens think about how they express themselves with various exercises.   We take special care with pre-teens, who take pictures of themselves with Polaroid cameras in the Orientation Session and then tell  “stories" about the pictures.   They also receive a “detective kit” to help them in their exploration and we involve their parents in the project.

Teens receive a 35mm auto-focus zoom camera and film and money to buy music CDs – offering them two ways to express themselves.
